Nagasaki Izumiya Honten
We designed a castella shop in the shopping district in central Nagasaki, an area bustling with tourists and locals.
By stacking 105mm square cedar planks offset at 160mm intervals, the entire structure from exterior to interior is formed, creating a warm and soft space.
All the materials used are straight, but as the end planes of each component shift slightly in position as they stack vertically, the space organically transforms its function depending on the location—serving as exterior walls, interior walls, stairs, and ceilings—resulting in a cave-like space that feels cohesive as a whole.
