As part of the LEXUS NEW TAKUMI PROJECT, we collaborated with Tosa Kumiko craftsman Daisuke Iwamoto to create a three-dimensional Kumiko object at the Gaku-den of Heian Jingu.
While Kumiko typically involves assembling small components to create flat structures, this project combined Iwamoto’s craftsmanship with computational design techniques, enabling its evolution into three dimensions. The result is a never-before-seen curved, transparent piece of furniture.
