Matthieu Wotling Partner
Matthieu Wotling joined Kengo Kuma and Associates in 2008 and became partner in 2017. He obtained his architect diploma INSA-ENSAIS with first class honors in Strasbourg, France in 2004 after completing a third-year study exchange at the EPFL, Switzerland. He provides overall leadership for the ongoing projects in Europe and enforces the management and design strategy of the firm’s development in Paris.
Following his graduation, he has been contributing to the Tempus European Union’s external program in Ukraine that supports upgrading higher education systems in EU partner countries and neighboring states.
He has also been a multiple laureate of the “Europan” international competition for young architects in 2008, 2010 and 2014. He takes part in numerous juries for public competitions and was engaged at educational architectural institutions between 2012 and 2014.
In 2014, he was awarded the “Palmares des Jeunes Urbanistes”, a prize given by the French government.
The projects he has been in charge of include Mademoiselle Bio headquarters in Paris, the Suspended Forest House in the Jura Mountains Switzerland, the Educational and Sport complex in Paris 19e, the Maritime History Museum of Saint-Malo, Saint-Denis Pleyel Emblematic train station, Sora Congress Center in Eastern Paris and Mont Blanc Base Camp headquarter, awarded with the National Wooden Construction Prize for Publics and Tertiary buildings.
He is currently developing several projects including the Exhibition Park of Strasbourg, the Eco-Hotel T5B in Paris 13e and La Pointe du Bout 5* Hotel & Spa in Martinique.
His work is a tightrope-walking act between architecture and urbanism. He pays particular attention to the convergence of territorial, constructive, and programmatic issues whilst focusing on Kengo Kuma’s research on spaces and experimental materials.
