A traditional townhouse in Hizen Hamashuku, an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings in Kashima City, Saga Prefecture, has been renovated into an auberge by Fukuchiyo Sake Brewery, known for producing Nabeshima, one of Saga’s most celebrated sake labels.

Circular lighting elements, inspired by the steam and aroma that rise during the sake brewing process, appear to float within the space, layering the refined beauty of old timber construction with a sense of contemporary transparency.

The first-floor restaurant is softly wrapped in white with washi paper and woven ajiro. The second-floor guest rooms preserve the original earthen walls, creating quiet and immersive darkness.

Circles made of diverse materials hover within the traditional structure, offering an architectural expression of Nabeshima—a sake that continually contrasts and connects tradition with the present.
